Kaibigan, Friend, Amigo, and Tomodachi

In 1985, according to psychologists Michael Argyle and Monica Henderson of Oxford University, there are several basic universal rules of friendship, among them:

1. Provide emotional support
2. Respect privacy
3. Preserve confidences
4. Be tolerant of other friendships

In violating these rules, we will forfeit our friend's "trust and, with it, the chance to build the intimacy that results in truly rewarding partnerships."**
