Toycon 2005 Time-space Warp

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
whoah... toycon 2005 was like the first toycon... too much to buy, too little space, too many people. similarly, it was a blast! great booths! great toys... and someday, i'll buy those. right now i just can't afford an action figure priced at Php2000+ a piece. I can't find the Rurouni Kenshin action figure set price at 900-1200. aggst! so i just bought Kankurou keychain and small Mini Moni figurine. (refer to image: Kankurou is from Naruto anime series, and Mini Moni is one of the cutest jpop girl group...)

Anyways, since I can't find the toys i was looking for, i just looked for some anime stuff. I bought some videos that i didn't expect to find. it was like i was in a Time Space Warp... ngaun din!!! it was good that they're on sale... wooot!!! here are some of the things i bought...

ANIME:

Movies:
  • Howl's Moving Castle (newest Hayao Miyazaki film, creator of Princess Mononoke and Spirited Away, though my personal favorite is My Neighbor Totoro)

  • Tenjo Tenge (Action-packed, comedy, basta, panoorin ko muna)

  • Samurai 7 (based on Akira Kurosawa's Seven Samurai, i really liked the animation of this mech-samurai show)
Live-Action:
  • Azumi 2 (sequel of Aya Ueto's hot action samurai flick... asteeg!!!)
  • Bioman (i got the last few episodes including the ending... yehey!)
  • Masked Rider Black (last few episodes and the ending... sayang walang RX)
Concert:
  • L'arc en ciel 7 concert tour (the best jrock band! rock on!!!)

I went to the woods because I
wanted to live deliberately...
I wanted to live deep and suck
out all the marrow of life!
To put to rout all that was not life...
And not, when I came to die, discover

Fete + First Day Funk # 2 + Petals Around the Rose

Hmm... whataweek!!! Highlights:

1. Fete de la Musique
  • Black-clothed Urukhai wrecking havoc and chaos into the music stages and streets; condoms made into balloons thrown in the mosh pit; a gig of flying bottles of mineral water (we saw one threw a bottle of san mig light - ouch!); people from all walks of life; and very good music... (Sugarfree, Hale, Moonstar88, Radioactive Sago Project and Kiko Machine rocks!!!)
2. First Day Funk # 2

Image hosted by Photobucket.com
  • Whoah... our first day with our Creative Strategy professor was really challenging. At least we learned FOCUS... FOCUS... unlike my blog entry... walang POKUS!!
  • Our teacher's ad agency made the Rexona's First Day Funk campaign!!! funky no?!? asteeg... and I got a hold of Parokya's CD with their song and video of First Day Funk... and I was not required to dance... let's do the funk...
3. Petals Around the Rose
  • This game is really fun. I found this in our batch's mailing list, and also on my prend's blog. You can read it here... and then play it here to test your understanding of the game... dont tell the solution to others, it shatters the ego. besides, you will feel a sense of fulfillment by solving it on your own.
____________________________________________________

Lloyd Borrett - Computing - Petals - Bill Gates plays Petals Around the Rose: "'I can tell you only three things: the name of the game, the fact that the answer is always even, and the answer for any particular throw. In this case the answer is two.'

'So that's how it is. What am I supposed to do?'

'You're supposed to tell me the answer before I tell you. I'll give you all the time you want, but don't tell me your theory, just the answer. If you figure it out, you don't want to give the idea away to these other jokers around you. Make them work for the answers, too. If you get the answer right on six successive rolls, I'll take that as prima facie evidence that you understand the game.'"

Batman and the League of Shadows

Yeah... Batman Begins is a really good movie. I wish I could be a member of the League of Shadows. Anyways, I have my own Shadow Lab. Batman is not your ordinary superhero... if he is even super at all. He was not bitten by a radioactive bat nor from a bat planet. Bruce Wayne is not your average boyscout. There are three aspects of Batman's life which are interesting enough to learn from:

  1. Batman has no super-powers.
    • Batman is one of the few comic book heroes who doesn't have superpowers but still popular and successful. There are two things that keep him "super": his wit, and his money. He is considered one of the best detectives. Not being super doesn't mean being boring.
  2. Batman is full of angst.
    • Batman is not your ordinary boyscout. For crying out loud, he does not have any power like Superman. He can't save everybody in an instant. His angst made him Batman. The world is full of angst. And its better with an angsty caped vigilante. I can say that Batman is one of the best characters in modern literature. What makes modern literature modern is its angst and redemption. Angst and redemption are two themes I see in modern hero flicks like Batman. You may start ranting "I hate the world, the world hates me. Why should I care? Why should you care?" But ends up realizing something deeper... something more profound.
  3. Batman is super-rich.
    • Money can't buy you happiness, but it could buy you lots of gadgets. Wealth can buy you leisure. And leisure helps you perfect your self. This is why Batman is fiction. What kind of billionaire would risk his life and save the innocent and poor? If the world is full of Batmans, then poverty and corruption would not be a problem. The rich and powerful helping the poor are very rare, but they can change the world.
Watch Batman, it's worth the watch. I give it a 4.5 shadows out of 5.
I won't be surprised if Raz Alghul and the League of Shadows would attack the Philippines soon. Our country needs a Batman, an angsty rich normal hero who is fed-up with the corruption here.

Corruption Cow Crap

Maybe you have heard of this corruption joke before, but i decided to make a poll out of it. Anyways, the joke is funny, but corruption is not.

Ha! I don't like what I hear from the news.. jueteng scandal, 2 audio tapes... bleh! maybe these were just from quiapo's marketers... who knows? Maybe when one walks on the pirates' hub, one can hear:
  • Boss DVD("V" pronounced as "B"), VCD, X, Scandal... may bago kami... "Jueteng Scandal" may free 2 audio CDs pa!!!

i hope our country won't crumble... Happy Independence Day to all... hopefully.

Yey! Updates

About the Design
Yey! At last I finished re-designing the blog. i'll put some more links and buttons and make it more of a homepage, waah! for a quick explanation of the design, i was thinking of a logo or design for shadows, but i cant think of any, silhouettes are too common, maybe i'll do one in version 2. but the white computer-mouse-looking/tadpole-looking thingie is one of the results of my brainstorm. i was thinking of putting "yomz" in one symbol, and i got a symbol like a "Y" inside a circle. i twisted it, and it looked like a computer mouse, and with a tail, it looked like a male gamete. why not? conception has two meanings: (1)giving birth/fertilization and (2)giving birth to ideas. so i'll stick with it for the mean time.

I watched Mr. and Mrs. Smith... yeah! action-packed! fun! asteeg!

Yes, classes will start on Tuesday. But there are more dates I would keep in mind.
Some events I will go to:
1. Fete de la Musique - June 18
2. Toycon 2005 - June 26
3. Neil Gaiman in Manila - this July

For those interested, I got this sched of Fete de la Musique from some local band's mailing lists. it is still subject to change. I hope it won't rain. More or less, this will be the sked. I will only post the rock and alternative sked. Just comment if you want to get the Blues, Jazz, Electronica, etc. :D

Games + Design + Movies + Music = Fun

.:Games:.
I've been playing Gunbound and many RPG (Role Playing Games) this summer break. Gunbound is fun. Free taunting. Fun to mess around. wahaha. I just finished Pokemon Emerald. It was fun. argh! I miss those high school games when Pokemon was the fad. Right now I'm playing Final Fantasy 7. I need to get Vincent in my party! Games games games!

.:Design:.
I really want to improve the design of my blog. I want to make my online portfolio. Too bad design books are so expensive. Fortunately, I read them free at Powerbooks. :D If I had the money, I would really buy them. The book I've read recently was Layout Workbook by Kristin Cullen. Whoah, great concepts and great designs are showcased in that book.

Here are some of the things I've learned:
1. To design is not only to add aesthetics, but more importantly, to add meaning... blah blah
2. Form does not follow content. They go together as one.
3. Typography is the basic grammar for designing.
4. Layouts... (look for the book to see the designs)

.:Movies:.
I've watched Madagascar last week, and it was good. (I like to move it, move it! I like to... MOVE IT!!!) I really loved the penguins in the movie... hahaha! I just watched Coach Carter, and it was even better. Simple cinematography, great plot, and great lessons to learn.

.:Music:.
Whooo!!! Fete de la Musique is back in Ortigas! yeah! It would be on June 18 @ El Pueblo, 4PM onwards. yey!!! Among the performers I would like to see are Sugarfree, Hale, Mojofly, Session Road, Kitchie Nadal, Ciudad, Imago, Kjwan, Silent Sanctuary, Spongecola, and many more. For the complete list, check this link: Fete de la Musique

Yeah... before the next term starts... it would be fun, fun, fun and fun!!! Now back to my hibernation. :D
