Suicides and Absences

A popular South Korean movie actress who played a gloomy mistress who committed suicide in the film The Scarlet Letter hung herself Tuesday, South Korean police said.

Lee Eun-joo, 25, was found dead by her brother Tuesday afternoon in the dressing room of her apartment in Seongnam, just a few kilometers south of Seoul, the police said.

The police were called immediately to investigate the death. A suicide note was found at the site, in which the actress wrote: “Sorry, mum and brother.”

Lee suffered from insomnia after shooting The Scarlet Letter last year. She was said to be quite upset at the criticism for nude scenes in her latest TV serial Flamingo.
