The Contender

Boxing... boxing... always boxing. I'm hooked into The Contender on AXN (and Arirang's Quiz Show The Contenders), the animé Knockout (Hajime no Ippo) on GMA7, Rocky movies, but I have yet to watch Million Dollar Baby. The screenshot below is from the Gameboy Advance game of Hajime no Ippo. Boxing teaches many things. Among them is the quote from The Contender:

"That which doesn't kill you makes you stronger."

ahh... challenges... challenges. everyday challenges. subjects, teachers, classmates... all challenges. as long as they don't kill me (which i hope they won't), they will make me stronger.

p.s.
my finishing move:
jab + jab + right hook + liver blow + uppercut
(A+A+AB+ hold R + left + right + B)

i'm waiting for the opportunity to execute my finishing move.

This is Good

This is story is for the pessimists out there. I got this from an email. I hope this makes you think more positively. :D

THE story is told of a king in Africa who had a close friend with whom he grew up. The friend had a habit of looking at every situation that ever occurred in his life - positive or negative - and remarking, "This is good!"

* * *

One day the king and his friend were out on a hunting expedition. The friend would load and prepare the guns for the king. The friend had apparently done something wrong in preparing one of the guns, for after taking the gun from his friend, the king fired it and his thumb was blown off. Examining the situation the friend remarked as usual, "This is good!"

* * *

To which the king replied, "No, this is NOT good!" and proceeded to send his friend to jail.
About a year later, the king was hunting in an area that he should have known to stay clear of. Cannibals captured him and took them to their village.
* * *

They tied his hands, stacked some wood, set up a stake and bound him to the stake. As they came near to set fire to the wood, they noticed that the king had no thumb. Being superstitious, they never ate anyone that was less than whole. So untying the king, they sent him on his way.

* * *

As he returned home, he was reminded of the event that had taken his thumb and felt remorse for his treatment of his friend. He went immediately to the jail to speak with his friend. "You were right," he said, "it was good that my thumb was blown off." And he proceeded to tell the friend all that had just happened.

* * *

"And so I am very sorry for sending you to jail for so long. It was bad for me to do this." "No," his friend replied, "This is good!" "What do you mean, 'This is good'? How could it be good that I sent my friend to jail for a year?" "If I had NOT been in jail, I would have been with you...and I would have been eaten instead."

* * *

Moral: There are situations in life which we think don't make sense at all, like some failure or misfortune. But when we look back later, they proved to be blessings in disguise.
As the saying goes, "God writes straight on crooked lines."
Live on, therefore, according to His precepts. Even that which seems to be bleak and hopeless will be turned by God for His glory and YOUR benefit.

ayoko na

hmm.. starting today, my post will be modern lit style... with angst... reconciled with peace. nakakatamad ngaun. nakakatamad mag-aral. no effort this day. haay... i don't know if it's me or my teachers. i wish my teachers were like GTO.

I just saw this from my friend's status message:
"The coverage of the long test is everything I've taught you." ---> so walang coverage!?!

there are teachers who don't teach. some are very intelligent, but unfortunately, they don't know how to teach. there are 3 kinds of teachers: great teachers, teachers who don't teach well, and those who don't teach at all. i have nothing against teachers, but we need teachers, and they have a big impact on our lives. i'm glad that i had great teachers, and i still remember what they taught me. among them are my civ101 and civ102 teacher, my lit102, 103 and 104 teachers. :)

ha! i'll finish playing hangaroo, and finish sorting my files. asteeg! i bought 4 keychains from Naruto (Kakashi, Iruka, Rock Lee, and Iruka)... for 15 pesos each! :)

yomz random thought of the day

why is mars red?
1. ) maybe because mars was devastatingly itchy that some giant alien might have scratched it...
2. ) lately, many people are looking for mars, the moon is taken for granted. nobody looks at the moon causing it to be pale. while mars, due to the many people staring at it, it became conscious lately, and began to blush...
3. ) it was hit by too many asteroids...
4. ) it's just red... what do i care?
5. ) rust...

Quote of the Weekend:
"I don't let my schooling get in the way of my education."
- Mark Twain

Here are my 2 dreams last August 18, 2003. This is a repost from my old blog. I just want to chronicle my ephemeral dreams... which will not be ephemeral anymore...

Dream 1:

someone phoned me... "let me not name it to you, you chaste stars." (Othello, Act 5, Scene 2)... in the dream, she called me, but the dream seemed real. i was very sleepy and sluggish in the dreamland. when i answered the phone, it was like having no enthusiasm in talking with the caller, which is ironic since i am really eager to talk with her. My subconscious mind is dominant during my REM state, which may mean something inside me, prohibiting these emotions to blurt. What if the subconscious state is what i really feel about her. Who knows?

Dream 2:

the next setting is in the classroom. a very weird classroom. not that the room did not look like a typical classroom, but it was a classroom not familiar to me, maybe a room i still haven't gone to, or i have gone very long time ago. after a while, the teacher called one of her students, but the student told the teacher that he was hearing something outside, gunshots and shouting. the class was suspended, the intercom just announced. what was ironic in the dream was that we were allowed to go home. along the way, we saw people, neighbors having a shootout. it was like we are on the brink of war. end of story. what does this mean? poetic? rhetorical? literal? figuratively? or something else? again... who knows?

Ayaya Kawaii!!!

I'm Currently enjoying Aya Matsuura's new album, Zutto suki de ii desu ka... now she's singing Jazz. She looks so mature and more beautiful now.

Today

Hmm... had class. New lessons, same old shirt. Hmm... i decided to update my blog since the online game i'm playing (Tantra Online) does not work. badtrip, ayaw mag-update.

THE INCREDIBLES won the Oscars!!! Million Dollar Baby got many awards too... I need to watch that movie!
___________

Weekend

I watched Spongebob Squarepants the movie. Laugh trip. Don't expect a good ending, since it is really nonsense, nautical nonsense. But it was worth viewing! :)

I went to school early but late. Labo!?! I attended a drug awareness seminar. There was a talk about drugs, addicts, and testimonials. There was also tutorials about Mary Jane and the Rock. I didn't expect them to show that. That is to increase our awareness level.

I then went to the Tantra event with my associates from our corporation. we got Tantra Online freebies like stickers and caps. too bad, we didn't get t-shirts.
